Meet Patrick Furie, MAT, NASM CPT

Certified Muscle Activation Techniques Specialist, National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer

My 10 years of experience in rehabilitative and athletic training began with the U.S. Army Special Forces, where I performed post-rehabilitation training for injured troops. I went on to complete my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at George Mason University where I graduated magna cum laude. I am fascinated with physics and biomechanics, specifically how the brain creates solutions to movement problems and adapts to external forces. This naturally propelled me to personal training and eventually Muscle Activation Techniques, which specifically address the connection and communication between the muscles and the brain. There really is nothing more rewarding than helping someone through a biomechanics problem and allowing them to move through life with less pain and dysfunction.

I have worked with every type of athlete from professional dancers to football players, and for the past five years I have worked on clients with complex medical histories including connective tissue disorders, cerebral palsy, and pre-surgical and post-rehabilitation training. In his free time Patrick enjoys Jiu Jitsu and theater.

A note from Dr. Zingman: I began receiving MAT in 2004, at a time when I was in nearly constant, significant spine pain associated with debilitating headaches due to complications of my connective tissue disorder. Within a month of starting MAT I was out of pain, and I have been a devotee since then. I have worked with over a dozen MAT specialists in 5 states as a client, and upon moving to the DC area three years ago I was lucky to find Patrick. He has helped me through herniated discs, a subluxated shoulder blade, a labral tear of my hip, chronic headaches (now resolved) and many other injuries. I am thrilled to be the first medical practice in the Mid-Atlantic region offering MAT as this has been a goal of mine for over a decade. MAT is a critical component of my and many of my patients’ rehabilitation regimens. I am excited for PRISM patients to experience the level of care that is typically reserved for professional athletes, such as Peyton Manning. Read Peyton’s story here.
