Meet Tara Shimer, Certified Health Coach

Tara Shimer is a Certified Health Coach and full-time student at the Maryland University of Integrative Health where she will complete a three-year Masters Degree program in Clinical Nutrition in 2023. She has been fascinated with health and Integrative Nutrition since childhood, reading the likes of Dr. Andrew Weil even as a teen. While she studied health and nutrition for most of her life, she struggled with knowing how to care for her unique physiology.

Tara has firsthand (in addition to academic knowledge) regarding: Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) Insulin Resistance Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (HA) Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) Intestinal permeability Eating Disorders And more…

As a PRISM patient, Tara educated Dr. Zingman and would often send Dr. Z academic research articles about supplements. They eventually began chatting about nutrition after appointments. Dr. Zingman was so impressed with Tara’s knowledge that she encouraged Tara to pursue Clinical Nutrition as a profession. We are thrilled to have her join the PRISM team.

Tara is a true purveyor of “food as medicine.” She knows firsthand what it is like to feel lost, confused, exasperated, invalidated, hopeless, and desperate for answers. She learned through personal experience and professional study about the importance of personalizing meal plans and nutrition advice, honoring clients cultural and emotional needs, and the power of food in nourishing the body and soul. Her greatest hope is to help others along this journey.
